Rainbow trout are stocked in selected highland dams and rivers across South Africa, offering classic fly and light-spin fishing in cooler waters. They are popular with fly anglers and provide excellent sport on streams and stillwaters in the Drakensberg, Eastern Cape highlands, and Western Cape.
Habitat
Cool, clear streams, rivers, and highland dams. Trout prefer well-oxygenated water typically between 10-18°C. Look for runs, pools, inlets, and drop-offs in stocked stillwaters.
